Simple bedroom flow and inspiration.

A good night's sleep is essential to our well being, which results in a functional, happy and productive day. No matter what size or shape your bedroom is, it should be cleared of all clutter. There is something special, almost zen-like about a place where you can trust to close your eyes and surrender. Here are some easy starter steps to transform your everyday bedroom into a private getaway.

  1. Start with a deep clean! Begin at the top and work your way down - ceiling fan, light fixtures, furniture surfaces, etc. Clean your windows and let the light shine in. Wash your curtains and linens. Vacuum and mop the floor. Attend to your plants. Most importantly, open up your windows and let fresh air in and stagnant air out.
  2. Store nothing under your bed. Your bedroom should be light and airy. A space that provides peace and calm and clarity for the next day. There should be no luggage, boxes of tax returns, or any other kind of paperwork under the bed or in the bedroom area. Those are items that keep your mind busy, stressed and overwhelmed. Similarly, no laundry piles that need folding or exercise equipment that holds your clothing.
  3. No family or religious pictures on the walls. Although they look great in a hallways or on a desk, they do not belong in a place of rest and intimacy. Rather put some artwork that uplifts your spirit when you open your eyes and inspire you as you drift off to sleep.
  4. Choose colors and patterns that speak to you. Your bedroom should feel like a personal oasis. Everyone should have a space of their own that reflects your individuality.
  5. Banish all electronics. As we all know, electronics stimulate our brain and keep our mind occupied and engaged. Your electronic gadgets should be stored in a different room of the house. (There might be an exception to this rule; if you are an on-call doctor, place your phone on the floor rather than on the nightstand.) Also, there should be no TV. Since bedrooms are shared with our partner and he or she might be in strong opposition, place it in a cabinet behind closed doors.
  6. Add some plants. Create a living environment in your bedroom with plants. Look here for some more information on how to live with plants.

I hope this helps you to feel inspired to transform your space as we enter a new year. New year might be a new beginning on your journey toward more joy and happiness in your life, which starts in your home space. As always, if you need help to find yourself in your own space, you know where to find me.
